Measurement over guesswork
The name is not decoration. It came from construction, where the difference between a job that makes money and one that quietly loses it is almost always a number nobody was watching closely enough.
The same is true of technology in small organisations. Decisions get made on instinct, vendor pressure, or whatever the last person set up before they left.
Both divisions work the other way round: establish what is actually happening, quantify what it costs, and change the thing that moves the number. That applies as much to a help-desk contract as to a bid package or an autonomous agent.
